چکیده

The genetic influence on the response of nonpregnant nulliparous mice to foster placenta was investigated. Two highly inbred strains (BALBI cBy and C57BL/6By), their F 1 hybrids, a backcross generation, and seven recombinant-inbred strains derived from the F2 generation were tested. It was concluded that there is a genetic component to the response of female. mice to placenta in the absence of previous experience, and that more than one, but possibly as few as two loci are involved. Alternative explanations of average dominance for placentophagia and for no placentophagia (by the promotion of competing responses) were considered.

Effects of lateral hypothalamic lesions on placentophagia in virgin, primiparous, and multiparous rats.

Lesions of the lateral hypothalamus (LH) were produced in pregnant and nonpregnant female rats through chronically implanted electrodes to investi gate the effect of LH damage on placentophagia. Other variables investigated were prior parturitional experience and stimulus properties of the placenta. Lesions were produced under ether anesthesia 24 hr. prior to parturition in pregnant females a...

Myometrial angiotensin II receptor subtypes change during ovine pregnancy.

Although regulation of angiotensin II receptor (AT) binding in vascular and uterine smooth muscle is similar in nonpregnant animals, studies suggest it may differ during pregnancy. We, therefore, examined binding characteristics of myometrial AT receptors in nulliparous (n = 7), pregnant (n = 24, 110-139 d of gestation), and postpartum (n = 21, 5 to > or = 130 d) sheep and compared this to vasc...

Genetic influences on maternal care.

The basis of social evolution in mammals is the mother-offspring relationship. It is also the primary and most important instance of indirect genetic effects, where genetic variation in one individual affects phenotypic variation among others. This relationship is so important in mammals that often the major factor determining the life or death of newborns is the environment provided by their m...

Differential effect of gestation stage on benzo(a)pyrene-induced micronucleus formation and/or covalent DNA modifications in mice.

Benzo(a)pyrene (BP), an environmental carcinogen, binds ubiquitously to the DNA of maternal and fetal tissues (Lu et al., Cancer Res., 46: 3046-3054, 1986). These studies further investigated the effect of gestation age on the induction of genetic damage by BP. Timed-pregnant ICR mice were treated with one dose of BP on various days of gestation and sacrificed 24-120 h after treatment. At the m...
